Samsung’s Next Galaxy Unpacked Will Reveal Its ‘Ultra’ Foldable

With Google I/O and WWDC out of the way, the next big tech event of the year is Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Unpacked, which the company has now confirmed will take place on July 9. (Doesn't Samsung know everyone will be busy with Prime Day?) Following a previous Unpacked event focused on the Galaxy S25 series, this upcoming announcement is set to focus on the company’s newest foldable phones, including a long-rumored Ultra model.

This follows precedent—Samsung usually announces its foldable phones around mid-year. While Samsung won't confirm details until the day of, the announcement headline reads “Galaxy Unpacked July 2025: The Ultra Experience Is Ready to Unfold.” Plus, a teaser posted to Samsung’s YouTube closes with the line “Ultra Unfolds.” So I think it's pretty clear what we can expect.

But even if the company has essentially already let the biggest cat out of the bag, that doesn’t mean there won’t be additional surprises in store. Here’s how to watch the next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked, and what announcements you can expect.

How to Watch the next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked

The next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked will take place in Brooklyn on July 9 at 10 a.m. ET. Like past Samsung announcements, you’ll be able to follow along live on either Samsung.com or Samsung’s own YouTube channel. In person, it’ll be hosted in at a venue in Brooklyn, although it won’t be open to the public. (Lifehacker will bring you the latest news from Galaxy Unpacked as it becomes available.)

What to expect from the next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked

As Samsung has all but confirmed, this year's event will most definitely be all about foldables. That means we’ll probably get our first glimpses at the seventh Galaxy Z Fold and Flip devices, although it’s unclear what form they’ll take.

An "Ultra" foldable?

Samsung’s invitation, plus a now deleted post from earlier this month, point to an Ultra-branded foldable showing up at some point, but what we don’t know is whether it will release in addition to the current Z Fold and Flip lines, or if it will replace one or both entirely.

Personally, I’d lean toward the Ultra being a new option in addition to base models of the Z Fold 7 and Flip 7, but other Android foldables have taken the latter approach, most notably the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

What leaks and rumors tell us about Samsung's new foldables

Regardless of whatever Samsung’s new device or devices are called, here's what we already know: In February, Android Headlines worked with leaker OnLeaks to post CAD renders of what it suspected to be the Galaxy Z Fold 7, and late last week, the site posted what it’s calling official renders as well. It’s still calling this phone the Fold 7, so it’s possible the Ultra will be something else entirely, although it’s telling that if it is, nothing about it has leaked. Perhaps Samsung is just renaming the Fold 7?

A thinner foldable

As for the renders, the biggest takeaway is that this phone is likely to be thinner than the Z Fold 6, “anywhere from 3.9mm to 4.5mm thin when unfolded.” By comparison, the current model is 5.6mm thin when unfolded, while a recent competing foldable, the Oppo Find N5, is 4.2mm when unfolded.

The return of the pinhole camera

Also notable is that the under-display pinhole camera on the internal display seems to have been replaced with a punch hole camera, likely to improve quality. This will mean a slight interruption to your screen space, although it takes up less real estate here than the iPhone’s Dynamic Island.

A new screen shape

The external display also looks a little wider as well, with an aspect ratio more akin to the main display on a non-folding phone. If the leaks come to pass, expect it to be 6.5-inches large overall. And with that wider external display also means a slightly larger, 8.2-inch internal screen, which would be the largest on a foldable.

A status quo processor

Leaks aren’t expecting a major power increase, expecting the phone to run the same Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chip that’s in the Galaxy S25 series of phones. Despite the phone being thinner, battery capacity should match prior generations, though.

A major camera upgrade—maybe?

One of the leaks’ bigger called shots relates to the camera, which Android Headlines says will upgrade to a 200MP primary sensor. That might be where the Ultra name is coming from—that sensor is one of the biggest differentiators on recent non-folding Samsung Ultra-branded phones. I’m a bit skeptical, since foldables usually sacrifice camera quality to achieve their form factor, but if this bears fruit, it’ll essentially negate one of the biggest reasons to stick with a non-folding phone. Maybe there won’t be a base Fold 7 after all, if it’s set to have a camera this good.

A new Galaxy Z Flip 7

As for whatever Samsung’s next flip phone will be, leaked details are a bit more sparse. It does seem like one is on the way, and animation renders from Android Headlines and Onleaks point to it having a larger external display more akin to Motorola’s Razr. That means it’ll extend around the dual camera lenses for a total of 3.6-inches of screen space overall. The inner display is also set to gain an inch, hitting 6.8-inches, although thickness should remain the same. The phone as a whole might be a little wider, at 75.2mm, but other dimensions should be roughly equivalent to the Z Flip 6, as should camera specs. Processor details aren’t yet known.

What the new devices will cost

Pricing is a bit contentious. While Android Headlines’ posts and a statement from leaker PandaFlashPro claim that prices will stay the same as with previous models, a more recent leak originating from NieuweMobiel and shared by SamMobile showed that an Italian retailer posted a €200 price increase for what it listed as the Fold 7 and a €100 price increase for the Flip 7, which would take the new phones to €2,227 and €1,425, respectively. However, it’s possible that this discrepancy could stem from regional differences, a mistake on either the leaker or retailer’s part, or confusion stemming from that rumored new Ultra model.

For concrete details, we’ll just have to wait until July 9. Stay tuned for more updates.
